Way back in December (2014), I posted about getting new shoes, and interest in learning to run (post can be found HERE). Almost immediately after that post, I received an e-mail from my friend Audrey (who is actually a runner) asking if I wanted to sign up and do a half Marathon this year. I agreed, without giving it much thought.
I signed up and paid my fees in February, and then proceeded to spend my year NOT training much. I did, however, discover that
#1: I don’t love running. I love riding my bike, and felt guilty every time I so much as looked at my bike because “I should be running, dammit”, and I’d end up not doing much of either.
#2: ‘Runner’s High’ is real. For every run I did over the past year, as much as I hated it while it was happening, when I was done running, I felt GREAT!
The pinnacle of this second discovery came after finishing this half Marathon, and immediately telling Audrey that I would run The Other Half again next year with her, if she wanted to. What else could possibly make my sore, broken body tell her this except my adrenaline-addled brain?!
So, the nitty-gritty:
My official results
Here’s my race jersey, and finisher’s medal (which I have discovered is also a magnet, and a bottle opener!)
These are just some of the 1005 people milling around the start line area before the race
During the race (the first one is one that I took with Audrey’s phone – that’s her in front of me in purple, and the second one is from the professional photographer on the course. I bit the bullet, and bought 2 photos from them.)
The finish line picture is the other one I bought. I liked it.
Two selfies from after the race – “Look!” they say. “I’m still alive!”
I’m actually kind of looking forward to doing it again, but next year, I’ll do it better. Yay!

Just thought I’d share the lovely flowers of Huernia procumbens, which is blooming today. It has two open flowers, and a bunch more buds coming. I love this time of year, when all the starfish-y, stinky Asclepiads are blooming. 🙂
Hope you all enjoyed it as much as I do. Thanks for reading, and commenting!
